Transit freight trains on the Lötschberg axis
The Lötschberg NRLA does not only offer a quick connection for travellers and freight hauliers, it also transfers trans-Alpine freight transport from the roads onto the rails.
By the end of 2008, about 14,500 freight trains had passed through the base tunnel, 4,887 of them on the “Rolling Motorway”.
